Jose Rafael Cantu (aka Rafa) has served the students in the Texas Public School System for the last twenty years, he is Bilingual and ESL certified. Rafa graduated from the University of Texas-Pan American in 1999 with a Bachelors in Interdisciplinary Studies. Rafa taught in the Rio Grande Valley for eleven years before moving up to the Hill County for the last 9years.  Rafa is also certified in ACT and is ever working on increasing his knowledge of therapeutic interventions to better help his students.

Rafa is a "recovering minister" who has been involved as a Youth Pastor and Missionary. He has been fortunate to have lived in London, England and San Salvador, El Salvador. Rafa has led teams to Mexico and Guatemala.

Rafa and his wife live on a ranch literally between Welfare and Comfort.  He is a part time ranch caretaker. Rafa has two Labrador retrievers, though one refuses to retrieve properly. Rafa and his bestfriend love the great outdoors, they have visited over 20 National Parks. They love to camp, hike and mountain bike. Rafa's "happy place" is the backcountry of Big Bend National Park.
